Obituary of Mark C. Higgins
Mark Christopher Higgins, 53, of Old Town, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2024, in Prospect.
Mark was born August 11th, 1970, in Ellsworth, Maine to the late James and Margaret Higgins (Groleau) of Surry. Mark spent his childhood attending Surry schools until high school where he attended George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, graduating in 1989. After High school Mark went into the workforce and found true happiness working for Hancock County Sheriff's Department. Many years later, deciding he needed a change, he found he had a love for the Hearth world working for Sunrise Home and Hearth. Mark would later go out on his own, servicing and installing hearths throughout the area. That continued until 2007 when he combined forces with some longtime friends and family opening Evergreen Home and Hearth, in Ellsworth. Mark always had a way of going after opportunities when they would present themselves; He happily worked alongside this amazing group of people until 2016. These people were not simply friends; together they became one amazing family. After the company sold in 2016, Mark began working for Husson College in Bangor as a security officer, rising to the rank of Sergeant. Mark was very proud of the work he did at Husson and took great pride in helping to keep the students and Husson community safe. Over the years Mark had a few other endeavors which meant a great deal to him. Most recently he started and owned a professional organizing and cleaning company, MCH Organizing in Bangor Maine.
Mark is survived by his three sons Travis Higgins of Honokaa Hawaii, Corey Brown of Brooksville, and Jared Brown of Sedgwick; two daughters, Danielle Carter of Sedgwick, and Heaven Johnson of Greenbush; their mother, Trudy Mores, of Surry. Mark is also survived by his sister, Joan Higgins of Massachusetts (formerly of Surry); his brother-in-law Leigh Guildford of Ellsworth who was in all accounts his true brother; his two nieces, Rebecca Prefontaine (Guildford) of Dudley, MA, and Jennifer Guildford of Auburn, MA. Mark is additionally survived by his wife Allyson Sorenson and his two stepdaughters Madeline Tuite and Hallee Sorenson of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Abel Higgins, Shane Carter, Harper Carter, Olivia Brown, Damien Brown, and Kayden Brown.
Mark will be deeply missed by all his family and too many friends to mention. We ask that when you think of him, you think of only happy memories. He was a man who loved his family deeply and always tried to do what he could for them even when it seemed impossible. His family was his wealth, and, in that sense, he was filthy rich!
We all Love you Dad and you will forever be in our hearts.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date in Surry, Maine.
