Obituary of Gerry Atwell

Gerry Atwell, 85, passed away peacefully at home on 5/24/18 surrounded by his family. Gerry was born in Framingham, MA, the son of Lawrence Atwell and Claramae Curtis Atwell. As soon as he was able to walk Gerry was drawn to the wild, often found catching creatures in the woods and bringing them home, much to the chagrin of his mother. He discovered his life’s work once he learned that he could have a career with wildlife. “I thought that was pretty neat!” Throughout his career he worked as a wildlife biologist in Alaska, Montana, New England and the Philippine Islands. Gerry also served proudly in our military. In 1984 Gerry married the love of his life, Lynda McLaughlin, with whom he enjoyed traveling and “prospecting” at yard sales. Gerry was a faithful member of the Searsmont Methodist Church and he volunteered as a Big Brother and with the Boy Scouts. Gerry leaves his loving wife, Lynda Atwell, four children and their spouses and children: Lisa Atwell, of WA, her daughters, Kylee and Akasia Traynor; Laurie Sivonen of Saco ME, her husband Tarik Sivonen, their daughter Brigit Sivonen; Lisa Sawyer of Charleston ME, her husband Joe Sawyer; Bill McLaughlin of Kingston MA, and his partner Terri Almeida. Memorial services will be held on June 2, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Searsmont United Methodist in Searsmont, ME.
