Lewis was my teacher from 1976 - 78 at SUNY Oswego. He was the first person who helped me to believe in myself, for which I shall always be grateful. Although (to his and my father's chagrin) I never published a book, I did have a successful career as a writer for newspapers, magazines and corporations, and later as a web content provider. Thanks largely to the confidence he inspired, I was gainfully employed for more than 35 years. Thanks, Lew, and rest well. My condolences to his wife Jean and his family. - Jeanne Albrecht

Professor Turco told us in class one day that he would like to be remembered through his poetry. That wish has come true as people continue to read works from his large oeuvre. (He taught us to use that word instead of "collection.") I believe, however, that he is also remembered for his teaching of formal poetry, a form to which he was totally committed. Lew was a larger-than-life personality, a dedicated mentor, and a fine colleague. In his honor, I plan to find my Book Of Forms tonight and craft a poem--carefully. I send heartfelt condolences to Jean and family.
