Obituary of Rodney Clyde Merrithew

Rodney C. Merrithew, 90, died after a short illness on May 23, 2024. He was born May 14,1934, in Stockton Springs to Clyde and Orillie (Lamphier) Merrithew.

Rodney graduated from Stockton Springs High School, class of 1951. He worked as a carpenter and on the railroad. Most of his life, he was a truck driver, driving for Mollison, Merrill Transport Company, Delta Chemical, and General Alum. After retiring in 1998, he enjoyed working around his house and tinkering in his garage. He was always willing to help anyone out with whatever project they had. Rodney also liked to take road trips around the state of Maine and usually left on one route and came back by another.

Family was the most important part of his life. Pa, as he was known to all, enjoyed visits with family and friends.  He always had a story or two ready to tell.

Rodney is survived by his companion Sandra Clark;  two daughters, Cynthia Seekins and Catherine Carroll; grandchildren Lura and husband Dave Wade; Jessica Carroll and fiance Chris Murphy; Alex Carroll and girlfriend Ciara Turner; Megan Seekins and boyfriend Jarrett Snowman; Charlie Seekins and girlfriend Autumn Larrabee; great grandchildren Alison and Connor Wade and Kayden Carroll; brother Edgar Merrithew and wife Dolores; brother-in-law Robert Keating; and nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great great nephews and niece.

Rodney was predeceased by his parents; wife Grace (Black); brother Herbert Merrithew and wife Helena; sister Alice Tsetsilas and husband George; sister Marion Merrithew and companion Andrew Gergley; and son-in-law Rudolph Carroll.

At Rodney's request a private graveside service will be held at Mount Prospect Cemetery in Stockton Springs at a later date.  Memorial donations can be made to the Stockton Springs Ambulance Department, 11 Station Street, Stockton Springs, ME 04981 or charity of your choice.
