Obituary of Linda B. DesJardins

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Linda Barbara DesJardins, aged 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport, Maine on April 9, 2024.

Linda, who also goes by Lynn, had lived a joyous life full of laughter, love, and light. She was lovingly referred to as “Booma” by her grandchildren and many others. Lynn was the epitome of strength, beauty, kindness, and resilience. She leaves a lasting legacy affecting all those she has met.

Lynn had many adventures during her lifetime. She was born in Meriden, Connecticut on April 2, 1949; throughout the years however, she found herself drawn to the ocean here in Maine, where she resided in her last few years of life. Lynn graduated from Orville H. Platt High School in the year of 1968. Throughout her life Lynn had a passion for work, having a range of employment history. Most notably, as an optometrist assistant at Doctor Lily Yeh’s office in Wallingford, Connecticut. However, it would be her most passionate work as a child care provider to her grandchildren and cousins that she would find much of her happiness. During that time she instilled within them her silliness and grace that will keep her legacy alive.

Much of Lynn’s early years were spent with many close friends and family. She had an unbreakable bond with her aunt, Patricia Clancy whom she admired greatly. As well as helping to raise her younger brother, Jeffrey Cooper. The two remained close all throughout her life.

The life of Lynn DesJardins’ can be summed up in one word: graceful. Up until Lynn’s final moments, she remained kind and gracious, reminding those around her that the world is filled with much love and to simply, “be happy.” There was a lot in life that Lynn derived happiness from. Much of her time was spent making crafts for loved ones, snuggling with her two dogs (who she called “her babies”), spending time with family, and being by the ocean. It should be noted that for her recently celebrated birthday she had to have a “lobster and baked potato.” You could often find her dancing to music and enjoying life, a lesson which we could all take with us.

The world is a better place because of Linda DesJardins. She strove to be kind to every individual, no matter the battles she faced. One of the most challenging moments in Lynn’s life was when she was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer. However, due to the efforts of many caring doctors, and Lynn’s overwhelming strength, she overcame what was thought to be the end. All of Lynn’s life she was a devout Christian, up until her final hours she was thanking her Lord for the time she was given and the chance to make so many wonderful memories she cherished. In a conversation Lynn had regarding her experience with cancer she stated the most difficult part, “was knowing that there are children who experience such harrows.” She donated often to St. Jude’s with hopes that she could make a difference in their suffering. Another testament to Lynn’s astounding compassion and gracious nature.

It is said that when an individual departs our physical world there is an absence and void that fills our hearts. While that is true, and the hole in our hearts is immeasurable, it is also true that she is still here with us; and she made sure that her family knew that. When the sun encapsulates you in warmth, when a ladybug appears on a grass blade, or when you see the color purple, it is all a reminder that her love and spirit will never disappear. As we continue our lives with her spirit by our side, it is important to know that she is the angel who guides us. A saying in which she learned from her mother, and said to all those she loved, “I am putting the angels around you.” Here is to Lynn, a loving mother, sister, and grandmother - we are putting the angels around you now.

Lynn is predeceased by her parents: James Cooper and Shirley Cooper. As well as her brother, James (Jimmy) Cooper.

She is survived by her brother, Jeffrey Cooper and spouse Cynthia. Her special aunt, Patricia Clancy, and spouse Jack. Her daughter Shannon Lynn Davis and spouse Anthony DiPasquale, daughter Jillian Roes and spouse Christopher; her sons Rene DesJardins and fiancé Jacklin Alarmani, Jamie DesJardins and spouse Sharon, and David DesJardins. Her grandchildren Patrick Artkop and fiancé Abby Rogers, Mikayla Artkop, Kyle Artkop, Riley Artkop, Michael DesJardins, and Steven DesJardins. As well as step-grandchildren Brittany Roes, Jordan Roes and fiancé Faith Deegan, Bailee Roes, Nicholaus Roes; and step-great-grandson Miles Roes. As well as her beloved dogs, Bow and Lulu; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations please be made to St. Judes, the Kurn Hattin Homes for Children, or a charity of your choice.
