Obituary of Blaine Roger Hardy

Please share a memory of Blaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Blaine R. Hardy 68 of Belfast, Maine passed away on March 1, 2024 at Waldo County General Hospital with his family by his side.

Blaine was born on October 25, 1955 at the old Waldo Hospital to his parents Vernon and Eleanor ( Luce) Hardy.

When Blaine was 2 he and his parents moved to West Hartford Connecticut. This is where Blaine grew up, graduating from Rockville High School in 1975. He then went on to earn a diploma in electronics. He received the Golden Wire award for his exceptional skill and outstanding leadership in the field of electrical education. This excellence and knowledge of how things work and are put together started at the kitchen table as a boy  where many a plastic tablecloths were ruined with all the sodering burn marks he made learning to use wires. He took apart his Uncle Roger's organ in the barn which was not the best choice to play with but  he learned by doing and before you knew it he was repairing almost everything that ran, from electrical, to cars, to electronics to appliances. He was a hard dedicated worker, so valuable to so many over the years.

Blaine was a quiet, private man, but would try to help anyone he could who called and needed his help. His work history included working at Gerber Tech in Connecticut, CMP, Superior Maintenace out of Camden Maine and then he worked for himself for the rest of his career mainly on cars and computers.

He loved Star Trek, Scifi movies, the series Outlander and The Chosen. He enjoyed listening to Glen Beck and Howie Carr on the radio.  He loved nature and being outdoors. Until the last few months of his life he could be seen driving around Belfast parked at the waterfront or at Bayside in Northport watching the  seagulls play.  He loved mowing his parents lawn. Visiting his parents was something he would always look forward to. When his mother Eleanor could no longer cook and would have company coming she would call Blaine to come and make a blueberry pie.

Blaine enjoyed going to Lori's Cafe on Rt 3 and getting take out breakfast with his wife and taking it  to the Lake St George Boat Landing. They enjoyed watching the people come and go  off the lake. Even in winter watching as some ice fished or others ice sailing across the lake watching for the fish flags to pop up. He loved pizza. His favorite was hamburg, onion and pepper from Alexia's. Another favorite he would order was a Big Mac pizza from Bricks and Sticks at Searsport Landing where he would sit and eat it right there at the water’s edge. On his last day he was hungry and they offered him some yogurt and as he took a few spoonful’s he said "Oh that tastes so good, it's not a pizza but it tastes so good!"

He is predeceased by his parents Vernon and Eleanor Hardy.

Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Bonita Hardy, sister Ann(Hardy) Wilkie, niece Michelle (Wilkie) Hosford, her husband Kris and their children Alex and Hailey, and nephew Jason Wilkie who he enjoyed going to car and air shows with, along with occasional trips to Boston.  A special memory he loved was when Michelle and Jason were with him at Schoodic Point at Acadia National Park and he let them use his pliers to feed potato chips to the seagulls. He also has a niece Lizzy Lou who he shared a special bond with.

Two of his favorite phrases were "I'll do it tomorrow" and at the end of every show or movie that he watched with his wife he was always the first to say "that's it!"

So Blaine would want to say to you today "I hope I will see you some tomorrow" and his final words would be "that's it!"

A private graveside service will take place in the spring in Carmel, Maine.

In lieu of flowers it would have been his wish to make a donation in his memory to the Belfast Soup Kitchen as they were a big help to him in the past.  Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.
