Obituary of Virgil A. Taylor

It is with sad hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved husband, father, and friend Virgil "Skip" Allen Taylor. Skip left us on Groundhog Day, Friday, February 2, 2024, to go to the best bass fishing spot ever found - sharing his best kept fishing secrets with God.

Born August 29, 1943, he was raised in Guilford, Maine, graduating high school from PCHS in 1963. After graduating high school, Skip proudly joined the Army to serve our country and was a Vietnam Veteran. Once he returned home in 1966, Skip met his bride, best friend, and soul mate Betty Sprague on a blind date - marrying one another on July 1, 1967. He worked for Dexter Shoe in Dexter, Maine for 34 years, then at Matthew Brothers in Belfast, Maine until his retirement in 2004. He was deemed fully disabled by Veterans Affairs due to his exposure to agent orange - which ultimately was the cause of many ongoing health issues, contributing to his passing. Skip was a proud member of the VFW Post 4298 in Dexter, Dexter Fish and Game, and the Waldo County Bass Addicts.

Skip and Betty enjoyed many adventures over the years across the country via bus tours and excursions - travelling as far west as South Dakota and as far north as Alaska. They also enjoyed road rides in and around New England and Cananda.

Skip was preceded by his father, Virgil Taylor, mother Vida Taylor, sister Beverly Bragg and Bea LaBre, sister-in-law Barbara Ronco and brother-in-law Dana Ronco. Skip is survived by his wife of 57 (glorious) years, Betty Sprague Taylor, daughter Melanie (Taylor) Berry, son-in-law and former fishing buddy Gregory Berry, granddaughter Sarah Berry, (Donny Holt), two great grandbabies Ario and Delilah Holt, and his two other siblings - sister Juanita Taylor (Carol Higgins-Taylor) and brother Lance Taylor (Nancy Taylor). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra Lamb, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Skip to:
