Donald Brown

Obituary of Donald N. Brown

Donald Norman Brown Sr., 84, of Burnham passed from this life into the presence of the Saviour he loved on January 26, 2024.

He was born in Georgia on October 20, 1939. His parents were Joe & Clyde Brown, and he was the oldest of his three brothers, Larry, Joe & Dal.

In June of 1959, at the age of 19, he married his sweetheart, Penny Harmon, three days after her 16th birthday. They enjoyed 60 years together before her passing in June of 2019 and were blessed with two children and five others who called them Dad & Mom, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought them much joy. They were active members of Grace New Testament Baptist Church in Natchitoches, Louisiana for 40 years, and were dearly loved by their church family and friends there.

Don was always a hard worker and as a young man, he worked his way up from technician to supervisor in paper mills in several southern states as well as New Hampshire. In 1982, he founded Brown’s Security Systems, where he worked until he retired. He was involved in the founding of the Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association and served as its president for many years.

In his later years, he enjoyed traveling, photography, birdwatching, gardening, and working in his shop. After his stroke in early 2021, he also developed a love for puzzles and one could always be found in progress on the table in his room.

In July of 2019, Don was blessed with love again and married Paula Allen “Poppy”. Together they shared 4 1/2 years, moving across the country and building a home together in Burnham, Maine where they could be closer to family. He loved her eight children as his own and enjoyed being “Grandpa Don” to her many grandchildren. Together they were members of Lighthouse Bible Church in Searsport, Maine.

Those who knew Don appreciated his smile, humor, wisdom, prayers, generosity, and the hugs that he was always willing to give. He loved each member of his family dearly, and although there were often many miles between them, he was always only a phone call away and would drop everything if those he loved needed him. His love and care will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The interment will be held in the Spring.
