Obituary of Mark Stephen Thompson

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mark S Thompson of Knox went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at his home on December 21, 2023 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Mark was born November 18, 1950, oldest son of Clayton and Ruth N (Fowler) Thompson having been brought up on the family farm on Knox Ridge, Mark learned a profound work ethic from both parents. Mark attended local schools and graduated from Mt. View High School in 1969. Feeling the leading of God in his life he went to Glen Cove Bible College in Glen Cove Maine where he drove school bus to pay his way through college. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Religious Education degree.

Mark married the love of his life, Cathy Travers, on June 2, 1973. They worked together at Camp Fair Haven in Brooks Maine before they returned to Glen Cover Bible College as dorm parents.

In 1977 Mark became farm manager of the dairy farm at Goodwill school in Hinckley, Maine where he received several awards from the Somerset County Dairy Association. He worked there fourteen years.

In 1993 Thompson moved his family back to his childhood home on Knox Ridge and took a job as overseer of a blueberry company. In 2001 Mark left farming and became a driver for Freedom Acres, delivering flowers to florist shops throughout central and coastal Maine until he retired in 2018.

No matter the job, Mark gave it his all. For him his most important job was raising his four children who made him very proud. Son Jeremy and wife Rebecca Hawes; daughter Carrie and husband Michael Johnson; Son Isaac and wife Theresa Michaud; son M. Stephen and wife Stephanie Olsson. They were his eight children whom he loved dearly. In turn, they gave him his crowning jewels of thirteen grandchildren: each so special and bringing him heartfelt great joy.

Mark was a faithful dependable man of great integrity in serving and loving his wife, family, friends and especially his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Celebration of Marks life will be conducted at the Knox Ridge Baptist Church in Knox on December 29 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to Camp Good News; 431 Campground Road, Livermore Falls, Maine 04254
