Obituary of Gary Glidden

Rev. Gary A. Glidden

Troy -- Rev. Gary A. Glidden, 81 of Troy, Maine, passed away on November 15, 2023, at his home.

He was the son of Averill and Glenys Glidden. Gary attended Freedom Academy until his junior year then graduated from Fitch High School in CT. He joined the Navy upon graduation and became a submariner until a motorcycle accident sidelined his military career. He then became a “telephone man”. He worked for New England Telephone/Verizon until he retired. Having been an installer, lineman (one of the last that climbed poles with spikes), cable splicer and supervisor.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Sylvia Glidden, daughters Roxanne Ryan and husband Stuart, Cheryl French and husband James. Grandchildren Krista Ryan, Jeshua Ryan, Zackary Strout and Kayla Strout. Brother Lt. Col. Ronald Glidden. Additional family Randy and Anita Gleason along with their daughters Kimberly and husband Aaron, Carrie-Ruth and Jewell-Leigh, and Rachel Lindsey. Along with cousins, other family, church family and beloved friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, infant brother and many other family members and friends.

He loved his God, his wife, his family,  his church family and his friends. He loved joking, outdoor activities, mentoring and feeding people. He loved his church and was often found in the church’s kitchen. He helped with food for church events, funerals, weddings, etc., etc.

He taught Sunday school, gun safety, and was a youth leader. He and his wife chose to be foster parents for boys in crisis--at least 110 went through their home. After he retired he became an ordained minister. He would tell anyone that he was an Apostolic Pentecostal preacher with a street preacher ministry. He loved to share The Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

His celebration of life will be held at the East Dixmont Community Church, 34 Church Hill Rd, Dixmont, Maine on December 9, 2023 at 2pm.
