Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gregory W. Canning, 72 of Swanville, Maine passed away at his home Friday, November 10, 2023.  Greg was born in Camden, Maine on November 20, 1950, to Wilbut (Wiggy) Canning and Muneda (Brown) Canning.

He spent his entire life in Waldo County graduating from Belfast High School and Swanville was home.  Greg was a hard worker and drove tractor trailers for many local companies before going back to Commercial fishing and lobstering from his boat Braincramp out of Belfast Harbor.  He loved being on the water and where he felt most at peace.  Over the past few years, he had thrown himself into his tractors, gardening, and rebuilding chainsaws to keep busy.  He was a man who was generous with his time and knowledge and was eager to share with is family and friends.

Greg is predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law, and several aunts and uncles and one nephew and his very special cat Bow.

Greg is survived by his loving wife and best friend Missy Canning. His children Christopher (Laurie), Barrett (Jamie), and Krista; as well as five grandchildren, Kaylee, Jason, Zachary, Sydney and Jayson.  His brothers Wayne (Pansy) and Glenn, bonus sisters and brother Jackie (Glenn), Mark and Stephanie, special Aunt Viola and many nieces and nephews.  There are many special friends that are left here to share in our memories, and you all know how special you were to him and the memories you have of him.  Special thanks to a couple of bonus sons who made life a little easier for him over the past several years, Jason (Becky) and Syd (Danielle). Your generosity of time was invaluable.

In keeping with his wishes a private celebration of Greg’s life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association.
