Obituary of Richard Austin Hodgdon
Richard Austin Hodgdon, also known as Dick, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, in Belfast, Maine, at the age of 74.
Dick was born on March 15, 1949, to Geraldine (Roy) and Walter Hodgdon Sr., in Belfast. Dick led a life filled with passion and simplicity. His true joy came from working on classic Chevy cars, particularly Novas. He dedicated countless hours in his garage, listening to 8-track tapes of his favorite artist, Elvis Presley, while tinkering with engines. This love for cars and music was a testament to his ability to find value in everything around him, long after someone else would have given up on it.
Dick was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. His daughter, Rebecca Foster, and her husband Wade, along with his grandson Joshua Beckett, will forever cherish the memories they shared. His daughter, Dennise Holdredge and her children, as well as his son, Albert Russell, his wife Diana, and their child, will always carry his legacy in their hearts.
Dick is survived by his brothers, Maynard "Butch" Simpson, Ken Hodgdon, and Mike Howard, as well as his step-father, Alfred Howard. He also leaves behind his nephews, Ken Jr., David, Daniel, and Nicholas Hodgdon. His long-time girlfriend, Cindy Cook, and his dog, Brownie, held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his immediate family, Dick had many nieces and nephews, special cousins, close friends, and community members who were touched by his presence. In reaction to his death, many stated, "He was my best friend!"
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Hodgdon Sr., his mother, Geraldine (Roy) Howard, his brothers, Gordon and Walter Hodgdon, and his sister, Brenda Howard.
A combined Celebration of Life for Dick and his brother, Walter, was held in October, where friends and family came together to honor their memory.
Dick will be remembered for his genuine kindness and his unwavering love for his family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.
