I've known Gordon since high school, for more than 65 years or so. I lived with him briefly when I moved to Boston in 1967 and he was living in a basement apartment on Beacon Hill and studying at Harvard. I remember the brick bathtub he built under the shower in that apartment. I've spent a fair amount of time with him over the years. I've sailed with him a few times - always exciting although sometimes for the wrong reasons and always fun. Walked through houses he was buying or had bought. I once helped him place cemetery monuments when he owned the monument shop in Belfast. He was at Kathy's and my wedding in 1984 and the garden chime he gave us for a house warming gift when we bought our house in 1993 still hangs down by the pond 30 years later. We visited him and Kathy and Evan in Virginia a couple times, and stopped by in Tennessee when he was with Cita. He and Cita were at my 70th birthday party 10 years ago.
Alex, I met you and your Mom when you were quite young. David, I remember when he was close to finding you and then when he did. Evan, you won't remember me but I remember the amazing Lego constructions you were making when we visited.
In the last few years my wife, Kathy, and I have stayed with Gordon in Belfast a number of times, most recently Friday and Saturday less than a week before his death while we were attending the Common Ground Fair in Unity, ME; had dinner with him that Saturday night.
Gordy - I always called him Gordy or "Yord" but I'll be darned if I can remember where that second nickname came from - Gordy was one of the most interesting and warm-hearted people I've known. His enthusiasm was a staple of any visit with him.
Gordy was looking forward to coming to my 80th birthday party October 4th. I was stunned and dismayed to learn of his death as were the several Lewiston-Porter classmates at the party. I loved Gordy and I am still wanting some more time with him.
I am so sorry for our loss.

Gordon was a bight, curious, adventurous, and fun-loving friend. We were classmates in middle-school and high school. A note from him in my yearbook said that we particularly enjoyed the senior social studies class, one that widened our perceptions of the social world and challenged us to think critically. We were kindred spirits. After high school, we went our separate ways but re-connected 50 years later in Maine. We have shared stories of our lives and sailing, which was a shared passion. I was blessed to have the opportunity to renew the friendship and treasure the pleasant day he joined me for a sail on Penobscot Bay. I remember Gordy as an accomplished, well-travelled, kind and gentle soul.

I never met Gordon in person - he provided concrete testing services for the company I work for and we spoke regularly over the phone. Gordon was always full of light and joy and enthusiasm. I'm so sorry he's gone from this world - I am certain he is leaving a big void behind him. Sending my thoughts and care to his loved ones. Remembering you, Gordon!

Gordon was a very spirited intellectual man who never ceased to learn in his life. When I first met Gordon over 28 years ago I walked away thinking that Gordon knows something about EVERYTHING!
He had a special love for his 3 sons and the time he was able to spend with them. He loved to travel and his love of sailing was evident even last summer when we went to visit him and he had countless lasers, sunfish and sailboats in his backyard.
He was a very kind man and he will be missed by all of us! Much love, Jill, Rachel and caleigh xox

Dad was passionate about his family, boating, travel, food and his businesses. A caring Father, he wanted to be sure that his children were well prepared for anything, with plenty of stories and parental wisdom (not to mention flashlights, hand tools, wool hats, snacks and other necessities). He had an opinion about any topic and never held back with saying what he really thought. My fondest memories are the Canadian fishing trips, summers working on boats, road trip adventures and watching movies that I was probably too young for at the time. For those of us who knew him, we were blessed to have him in our lives and his memory will live on.

As many of you know, I only met Gordon, who was my birth father when I was almost 30 and he was almost 50. Though we only had about years together, it was very special to get to know him and it really completed my life, and I think his. It was truly insane how much alike we were and if anybody ever debates the genetics vs upbringing thing, I'd say who you are is 90% genetics. From the day I met Gordon and Alex, I felt like I had known them forever. Our mannerisms, sense of humour, the way we think and the quirky things we did were so similar it was bizarre. I love you and your sense of adventure and exploration Gordon and will miss you dearly! - David

Gordon was my Father-in-law. When Gordon came to visit us, he always made you feel special when he arrived. He enjoyed spending holidays with our family, especially Christmas. My husband, Alex and both my sons inherited Gordon’s love of boating and being outdoors. Christmas will not be the same without Gordon this year, and we miss him dearly.

We met Gordon when our daughter, Aubrey, dated and later married his son, Alex. We attended many family functions together with Gordon, who always had fun and exciting memories from his travels and life experiences. His stories were always interesting as well as entertaining. You could tell he lived life to the fullest. Our deepest condolences to his friends and family and he will be missed by so many.
