Sandra Magill

Obituary of Sandra Jo Magill

With immeasurable sorrow the family of Sandra J. Magill, our Sandi, announces her death on Aug 04 2023. Sandi was held in her final moments by daughter Caitlin and husband Christopher at our home in Washington,Maine. Sandi’s death was caused by motor neuron disease,ALS. Sandi entered hospice care and in her last days she was surrounded by love and comforted by Chris, Caitlin, son-in-law Ben Allison, and beloved granddaughter Catherine Marie.

Sandi grew up in Orono, attending schools there and at the University of Maine where she obtained degrees in preparation for her life’s work as a Maine State licensed teacher, then licensed Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counselor, both LADC and LCPC and as an MAC and E.A.P. Professional. Sandi loved her time as a Girl Scout and camp counselor leading girls up Mt Katahdin and wilderness camping. Sandi worked at the Alcohol Institute, EMMC, the Women’s Halfway House, and founded Northeast Care Foundation, a licensed Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. Sandi’s work was rooted in her belief, “people can and do get better.” Sandi went to NYC as a responder the day after the tragedy of 911, driving by herself through the night to assist the recovery. This led to employment as a trainer for crisis interventions. Sandi and Chris were then employed in Europe working with US  Soldiers and their Families throughout the GWOT era. Sandi was awarded two Army Civilian DOD Achievement Medals. One was awarded in a ceremony at the Pentagon, attended by Caitlin and Catherine Marie. In retirement Sandi lived in Texas and Maine with us, her family and friends, with a joyful heart and kind spirit.

Thank you Susan, Diane, and Irma for your support. Sandi’s family will heal our loss in private as Sandi desired.  Memories and condolences may be shard on her tribute wall.
