Robert E. Meggison
Robert Emmet Meggison, 74, of Belfast, Maine, died at home on July 6. He was the husband of Anne Hamlen Cohen Meggison. In addition to his beloved wife of 37 years, he leaves behind two brothers: Thomas (Deborah) of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and Peter (Sandra) of Westport, Massachusetts, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Robert was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of the late Robert and Stefania (Waskiewicz) Meggison. His early education was completed in New Bedford. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, New Hampshire; a Master of Social Work Degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook; and a Juris Doctor Degree from Franklin Pierce Law School.
Robert was a long-time attorney in Belfast where he served as a staff attorney at Pine Tree Legal Services. Thereafter, he opened his own law office in Belfast, specializing in social security law. He served many fellow residents of Belfast and Waldo County in need of legal services while representing an occasional criminal defendant. Robert was a kind and caring person with a unique sense of humor.
Robert’s interests were eclectic and included politics, botanical herbs, jazz music, and assisting people in need. He was active in the Belfast Lions Club. A private funeral service was held for Robert in Belfast on July 15. Donations may be sent in Robert’s memory to the Belfast Lions Club Charitable Fund, P. O. Box 493, Belfast, Maine 04915.
