Obituary of Sandra Y. Fernald

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sandra Yvonne Fernald of Unity, Maine, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2023.

Born on June 30, 1956, Sandi was raised in Troy and graduated from Mount View High School in 1974. After a 20-year career in banking that started at the Federal Trust Company in Unity, she moved south, briefly to Florida and then to Virginia where she transitioned into a management role at Sam’s Club. Back in her home state in 2015, she lived in Unity and focused on activities that she so enjoyed including gardening, feeding the birds, attending church, playing bridge, watching the news, and joining family gatherings, especially those held on the Fourth of July at the Tozier camp on Unity Pond.

Sandi had a strong faith, studied the Bible, and served the Lord through her involvement first at Troy Union Church, then at the United Methodist Church in Unity. She drew strength from her church family. She served as financial secretary for several years, was a member of United Methodist Women, and volunteered at the Good Steward Thrift Shop, chicken barbecues, and holiday fairs.

Sandi is survived by her devoted parents James and Sally (Wren) Fernald of Troy; a special uncle and aunt, Stephen and Barrie (Lowe) Fernald of Troy; aunts Alice (Myrick) Wren of Thorndike and Barbara (Wren) Ellis of Belfast; and many cousins and friends. She was especially close to her cousin Dee Dee (Tozier) Nash of Auburn, N.H., who was like a sister to her growing up. Sandi was predeceased by her long-time companion, Bobby, and her beloved and much missed brother, Maverick J. Fernald.

Her quick wit, sharp mind, and storying telling ability will be remembered by all she has encountered throughout her life. As Sandi was fond of flamingoes, we will be reminded of our love for Sandi when anything flamingo crosses our path.

A graveside service is planned with details announced at a later date.
