Tina Merry and I first crossed paths in 1994 when her son, Dennis was in my class at the Nickerson School. I knew right away that she was someone special. On the morning after camping out with 27 six and seven year old students, she showed up with a mug of freshly brewed coffee for me. Tina looked out for those she loved. For the 29 years that we remained in touch she continued to advocate for children, provide snacks for those in need and volunteer her time and support on school enrichment activities. (Tina insisted that her contributions remain anonymous.) She devoted many hours as a volunteer, working behind the scenes at home whenever help was needed. I saved countless newspaper clippings (re: articles pertaining to education) and notes of encouragement and gratitude that she shared with me. I will close with one of my favorite messages.
"We love you Mrs. Wood.
P.S. Would you please send me sizes of clothes needed!"
You will be forever loved and remembered, Tina.
