Thinking of all of Jim's family at this time. I met Jim through a cousin Richard LeSan. Both characters..and at the Belfast Legion Post. Always good talking to him, and he never forgets you as a friend. RIP.

Jim had many truisms.
"Don't tell me what to do",
"Women are for loving, money is for spending"
(implying, rightly, that the opposite is never desirable),
"Once you get settled [in the print shop], Don't Buy ANYTHING!"
[which I think meant big equipment], and
"Business is not the same thing as making a living."
I got to ask him "one free question a day"(!) What will we do now if we can't remember how to fix or adjust the equipment here?
It took him a while but he learned to live with a cat, though the cat had it hard at first because he would thump her hard on the side and head like the big dogs he was used to! He learned that cats are like girls and are nicer when gently handled. He said more than once that C.C. ["Copycat" his half Maine Coon kitten] kept him alive when he was down. Jim fed the birds. A lot.
He never took nuttin' off nobody, and was fiercely loyal to his friends. He hated liars and busybodies, which made his time in local government as much a trial as it was a duty he enjoyed with manly pride. He stood against attempts to mismap the harbor and cheat people out of their moorings. This didn't make him popular with the half the town that didn't know anything the channel. He was deeply committed to this local community. For all his bluster, in the time I knew him he never hurt a fly (though he might have aggravated one a bit). He was near to a second father to me and a kind friend. I will miss him very much.

A Belfast Icon, business man, a remarkable, intelligent, devoted family man and friend. Jimmy touched the lives of so many people, wherever his travels took him. He was a character, story teller and would make you laugh so hard with his great wit. We will miss him so much. Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies to his family. You were absolutely everything to him and each of you made him so very proud. His legacy lives on in all of you. Be proud and know, your Dad, Papa, friend, was a gift to us all. He is with Jesus now and story telling with the others and delightfully reunited with Judy. May Jesus comfort and hold you near during this sad time. Love to all. Fran and Jack

I worked for Jim and Dottie for many years. Jim taught me a lot running presses and doing every aspect for printing back then. He will be missed. My condolences to his family. Sheena Rapoza
