Obituary of David W. Gaylor

David Gaylor passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 19^th at the age of 92. 

Dave grew up in Waterloo Iowa during the depression and went to Wapello High School in Wapello Iowa.  He went on to get his PhD in Statistics at North Carolina State University.  Dave had over 40 years of experience as a biostatistician in both government and industry.  Throughout his career he formulated risk assessment approaches and performed risk assessment on numerous chemicals for the FDA, EPA, WHO and CDC.  He has authored or co-authored over 180 scientific publications on biostatistics and quantitative risk assessment. Dave served as the Director of Biometry and Risk assessment at the FDA National Center for Toxicological Research where he met and fell in love with Jill, his wife of almost 30 years.  Together they travelled the world to attend and present at scientific meetings. Dave retired in in 2003 and was able to continue his painting hobby as well as thousands of Sudoku puzzles. 

Dave loved his family with all his heart and enjoyed their visits to Maine and the hours of playing Rumikube together.  Dave is predeceased by his first wife, Nannette, his brother Jim and sister Alice Gaylor, his son Tom, his granddaughter Amber Enge, and his daughter-in-law Debra Gaylor.  He is survived by his loving wife Jill, his son Craig, daughters Cary and Julie, grandson Riley and granddaughter Willa and great grandson William. 

A celebration of life will be held at the Riposta Funeral Home on May 20^th at 10:00 am followed by a brunch at his home at 75 Peacedale Dr. in Northport ME. 

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Maine Health Hospice for their support and kindness in the final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Autism Research Institute in San Diego CA.
