Obituary of Muriel O. Hart
MURIEL OLIVE HART, 83 of Belfast, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 2, 2023 at the Sussman House in Rockport. She had been surrounded by her loving family in the days preceding.
Muriel was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on November 22, 1939, the third child of Morris W. and Florence B. (Riggs) Chute. They later moved to Maine settling in Montville.
She was raised on the family farm in Montville with sister Alma and brother Robert. She fondly spoke of the times hunting with her father. Muriel graduated high school from Walker Memorial in Liberty and played on the basketball team.
Muriel and Frank were married in the Liberty Baptist parsonage on May 11, 1958 and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2020.
Muriel loved animals having many chickens, goats, sheep, cats and dogs. She worked many seasons at the Canning Factory in Union, and was known to "innocently" place used tea bags in co-workers coat pockets. She also worked at the shoe factory and Stinsons cannery in Belfast. Later in life, Muriel actively pursued family genealogy. Her greatest achievement was identifying and subsequently locating her half-sister Virginia (Chute) Covert and half-brother Earle Chute. Muriel and Virginia spent many hours reminiscing.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband Frank, parents Morris and Florence, sister Alma and husband Roger Jackson, brother Robert and wife Nell, half-sister Virginia, and half-brother Earle.
Muriel is survived by her son Richard and wife Sara (Peaslee) of Chesapeake, Virginia; daughter Sarah and her partner Peter Hamilton of Gray; son Wayne and wife Darlene (Beverage) of Belfast; five grandchildren: Teresa Noteboom and husband Phillip, Richard F.
