Obituary of Kevin Richard Small

KEVIN R. SMALL, 59, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2022 in Bangor.  He was born December 21, 1962, to Richard and Phyllis (Barry) Small.  

Our Dad Kevin graduated from Searsport District High School in 1981 and worked at Searsport Exxon for a summer for Ralph Webster Sr, then for Merrill Transport in Searsport.  He started off as a tire changing part-time mechanic and then Kevin got his Class A. driver's license and drove truck for them for about a year.  He then drove for Webber Oil Transport out of Bangor and then for his uncle, John Barry for two years hauling chemicals out of GAC.  He finished his driving career with H. O. Bouchard after 24 years putting on over 2 million miles in driving.  He then decided he had enough of driving truck and started his own business, Small's Logging, doing something he always enjoyed - being outside.  Kevin was an avid hunter who enjoyed sharing hunting stories about time spent with his grandparents, Ephraim and May Small, his uncle David Small and his father Richard Small - stories that would make you laugh.  He also enjoyed hunting with friends and his son-in-law, Charlie Larrabee and well as his father Charles Larrabee Sr.  He also did some rabbit hunting with his pet beagles.  Another passion Kevin had was snowmobiling.  

He had been a logger for the last 10 years - something he wished he had done years ago.  Kevin loved it and Momma liked the pine smell he brought home on him.  He was a proud man and that meant working hard for his family - and he did that well.  He taught his girls to always be thankful and grateful for all our blessings from God.  His wood hauler was Gary Fowler, and they made quite a team - Momma always said when Gary showed up and shut the truck off they were going to chit-chat for a while.  

Our father loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and made it a point to put God first in all areas of his life.  Reading the Bible and his faith was important as was praying for family, friends and so much more every day.  Getting back to Swanville church and having his family all around him on Sunday mornings was an answer to prayer.  Our Dad loved family and being outdoors.  Spending 10 summers at the family cottage on Swan Lake made for great fun times.  He built the home we grew up in and was proud of it!  Our newest memories were of the camp in Waldo.  The property up there was important to him - it belonged to his Gram May Small whom he spent a lot of time with, but he loved hunting, that made for a lot of amazing stories, and he loved telling and sharing them all.  Snowmobiling and 4-wheeling were other things he enjoyed since he was a teen.  Kevin was always willing to help people, never hesitating with a smile on his face always made him feel good.  Family gatherings made for great laughs, memories and was a priority for him.  

Daddy leaves behind our Momma, Michelle - 40 amazing and wonderful years together building a life together.  They truly loved each other to the moon and back.  He leaves a very big hole in Momma's heart.  She called him Poohbear ever since high school and he would pick her up from school in his red Nova he rebuilt and was proud of.  He also leaves behind two beautiful daughters, Miranda Small and Meagan Larrabee and husband Charlie.  Just the mere mention of their names and he would light up.  He was a very proud and blessed father.  His son-in-law Charlie was truly a son he never had but God gave him one.  Kevin had five grandboys, Isaiah, Colton, Logan, Hunter and little Connor.  There are really no words to express the true love he had for each of them, his heart grew 5 times bigger if thats even possible.  With Isaiah being the oldest, he was always Grampy's little buddy.  Whether they were sitting on the tractor together mowing the fields, riding in the dump truck or pulling out a twitch of logs that little boy made him glow and beam with joy.  Isaiah's latest was sitting in the hunting blind and sharing stories with Grampy.  Daddy was always making sure to pray when we got together and his little grandboys would hold hands and close their little eyes. 

He will be missed by family and so many dear friends.  His brothers, Barry Small and wife Carol and Allan Small and wife Lesley along their families; his brother-in-law Michael Hamm and wife Nancy and their family and his dear friends Shawn Bailey, Rodney Young and Ken Larrabee - so many more.  Family will forever hold  him in their hearts and continue to share in his memory with all the stories and all that he meant to us. 

Daddy would say if you've accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, you'll see him again soon.  Well done thou good and faithful servant to our Lord, family, friends and so much more.  Daddy and Poohbear, we miss you so very much - big hugs and kisses til we see you.
