Obituary of Ruthie Irene Hamm

Ruthie I. Hamm, 84 of Searsport, passed away at home with her loving family by her side.  Ruthie was born on December 23rd in Belfast to the late Everett and Erna Gilmore. 

Ruthie was greatly loved and loved greatly.  She and her husband Walter had been married for 33 years.  They enjoyed many years of camping and travelling, even all the way to Utah and back.  Although she was a member of Swanville Community Church, she and Walter sang in area churches with Bud and Dot Dyer as the Silver Saints. Ruthie loved all things bright and colorful and at one time painted and scrapbooked.  Feeding the birds and puttering in her flower gardens always made her smile, but seeing her grandchildren brought her the most joy.  Ruthie had many gatherings with family and friends cooking yummy dinners, desserts and was famous for her homemade pickles.  She enjoyed making new friends and spending time with friends like when she went to Hawaii with her friend Barbara. Ruthie and Walter loved going for rides, never knowing where they would end up, shopping and picking up pretty dishes along the way.

Ruthie was preceded by her loving husband Walter, her daughter Rhonda I. Rhodes and her brothers Rodney Gilmore, Everett Gilmore, Paul Gilmore and Kenneth Gilmore.  Surviving are her children, Randy A. Rhodes and wife Helen and Rusty A. Rhodes; her stepchildren Michelle Small and husband Kevin and Michael Hamm and wife Nancy; her brother Leonard Gilmore, her sisters Ada Gordon, Maxine Seekins and Sharon Lamb; her grandchildren, Amie, Mandy, Randy Jr., Nancy, Bailey, Miranda, Meagan, Rachel, and Joshua; several great grandchildren; her special cousin Elaine and her dear friend Sonya.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 7th at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast ME. Friends and family may gather for visiting from 10am – 11am at which time the funeral service will begin. Burial will follow in Smart Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
