Betty Sprague

Obituary of Betty C. Sprague

Betty Jane (Christopher) Sprague, 91, of Belfast passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sept. 27, 2022. Betty was born May 25, 1931, to Bert and Rexxie Christopher of Ruskin, Florida.

Betty was raised in Ruskin and was the youngest girl of 16 children. Betty met the love of her life, Harold “Joe” Sprague, a Navy sailor from Maine, at age 19, and they were married in September 1952. After marriage and the birth of their two daughters, they moved to Maine to begin their happily ever after.

Betty worked by her husband’s side in their multiple family-owned trades. She was a beautiful soul who nurtured everyone who walked through the door. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many clothes for family and friends in the community.  Betty and Harold loved going around participating in local round dancing events with friends, and set up their garage for a time to practice in.

When retired, Betty and Harold traveled all over from Maine to Florida for the winters for many years, often taking their children and grandchildren with them. Driving their large RV, they made many stops to see family and friends along their route.

Betty enjoyed having family come to Maine to visit and always ensured everyone had a seat, a plate of food, and a bed to sleep in.

Betty is survived and dearly missed by daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Bouchard (Conrad) of Belfast and Sherry Harvey (Edward) of Stockton Springs; son and daughter-in-law Harold (Hank) Sprague II (Nora) of Cheyanne, Wyo.; grandchildren and adopted grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service for both Betty and Harold will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1 p.m. at City Point Cemetery in Belfast followed by a celebration of their lives at the Waldo County Shrine Club.
