Obituary of Beverly Anne Grant
Beverly Ann Patterson Grant passed on July 3, 2022, at the Harbor Hill Center in Belfast after a long struggle with dementia.
Born January 25, 1935, in Belfast, the daughter of Frank Patterson Sr. and Marguerite (Peggy) Porter Patterson. Beverly grew up in Belfast and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1954.
Beverly worked at multiple local businesses through the years. She spent many years as a stitcher in the local shoe factories, both Belfast Shoe and Truitt Brothers. She also worked at Viner Brother’s, Bass, Etonic and Wolverine shoe factories in Bangor. Beverly proved herself as a leader and took on the role of supervisor working with many new stitchers to help them learn the trade. For Viner Brothers she supervised the operation of a satellite stitching room in Belfast. She also went back to work for the telephone company in Bangor for a few years. No matter what the job, Beverly was always dedicated and made many life-long friends.
When many of the local shoe factories closed, Beverly went to work at Dutton’s Greenhouse in Morrill. She always enjoyed gardening and collecting plants and shrubs. She worked tirelessly in her gardens and collected many perennials. She could discuss her gardening and flowers for hours. She even enjoyed raking the leaves and pulling weeds (but would always complain). Tending her plants gave her much joy; even when her health started to fail, she would be sitting on the ground weeding her flower beds.
Beverly always enjoyed working with her hands doing knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and canning. She created many beautiful crocheted doilies and some beautiful quilts. Bingo was a favorite pastime, she would go most every week to the Redman’s Bingo with her daughter and granddaughter, and meet up with her friend Eleanor and sisters Gari, Marilyn and Gayle.
Her family brought her great joy. Seeing her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would light up her face, even in the later years as her illness took over. The family appreciates the support of family and friends and the staff at Harbor Hill and Kindred Hospice.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Gayle Patterson and Marilyn Cook.
She is survived by husband, Keith Grant, daughter, Lisa Stanford and son-in-law Ben Stanford, grandchildren Jared DeSimio and wife Hannah Curtis, Kelsey (DeSimio) Payson and husband Joshua, great-grandchildren Olive and Aster DeSimio, and Kinslee Payson. Also, her sister, Gari Oxton, and brother Frank Patterson Jr., in addition to many extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Beverly’s name to the Garden Club of your choice or Alzheimers research are preferred. The family has not planned a memorial at this time.
