Obituary of Merwin Everett Harvey
Merwin Everett Harvey, 74, of Union passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 3, 2022, at the age of 74.
Merwin was born to Ralph and Augusta Harvey on September 17, 1947, in Belfast Maine. Merwin was number 6 of 7 children. Merwin had a great love for all of his siblings and enjoyed sharing stories of all the shenanigans they pulled.
At the age of 17, Merwin joined the US Army. He was deployed to Vietnam in the year 1965 and returned when he received news his mother had passed. During his leave home, Merwin met his precious wife Faye (Elwell) Harvey through a mutual friend. He told time and time again the story of the night they met; They were down by the water when he scooped her up in his arms and acted as if he was going to throw her off the doc. He then stopped and looked at her and said “I think you’re a keeper”. They married on March 2, 1968. Later that year Merwin returned again to Vietnam where he eventually was shot and sent home with an honorable discharge.
While serving his country, Merwin was most proud of the martial arts skills he acquired. He was nothing less than a master who had a passion to teach others.
Merwin was an avid hunter, gun collector, farmer, and man of many trades.
He enjoyed life on his farm with Faye and their 3 sons, James, Kerry, and Yancey.
One of Merwin’s most becoming attributes was his love to share the Gospel of Christ with anyone who had a listening ear. He never wavered of telling the story of Jesus and his love.
Merwin is predeceased by his loving wife Faye Harvey who passed away on September 13, 2021; his parents Ralph and Augusta Harvey; brothers Milfred, Ralph Jr, Reggie, and his sisters, Vera and Clara.
Merwin is survived by his brother Raymond Harvey and family of Pueblo Colorado; his sons, James Harvey of Hope Maine, Kerry Harvey of Union Maine, and Yancey Harvey of Union Maine.
Merwin also leaves behind his 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He will be missed a little extra by his longtime best friend, Richard Shannon of Appleton.
A memorial service will be held at South Hope Community Church on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 1 PM.
