We were so deeply saddened to hear about Dona’s passing. So many of the memories of our daughters’ childhoods involve Dona. Her Story Hours and Summer Reading programs were beyond imaginative. I remember when she commandeered a Magic School Bus, complete with Miss Frizzle on board. My daughters looked forward to Story Hour so much, and as a young mother, so did I. Our friendship grew, and we co-directed some children’s theater productions at the library. What happy, busy days! She had a very special gift with children—she delighted in them, and delighted them. Every day with Dona was an adventure of fun and all children felt understood and valued by Dona. She was artistic, charming, brilliant, interested and interesting, and unique in the world. She will be terribly missed.
