Obituary of Richard L. Jackson
Richard L. (Dick) Jackson passed from this life December 4, 2021, on his 84th birthday at the Frankfort Assisted Living Facility in Frankfort, Maine. He was the son of the late Alton and Catherine (Davis) Jackson, born at home on Jackson Avenue in Searsport, Maine.
He graduated in 1956 from Searsport High School and served from 1958-1960 in the US Army at Fort Myer, Virginia. Returning to Searsport, he was a lobsterman for a while and found a career working for the Defense Department at the Defense Fuel Supply Point in Searsport, known as the ‘Tank Farm’, until it closed in 1998.
Later he found his niche in guns and ammo. He became very knowledgeable and was a first class weaponologist. He enjoyed taking many target-shooting, instilling safety rules to everyone. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
He was a crossword puzzle enthusiast, could recall all details about movies, and had an entertaining gift for telling stories with Maine lingo added at the right places.
Dick is survived by his sister Judy Choate, of Searsport and Wellsville, New York, two nephews, Christopher (Joanne) Choate of Oswego, New York and Brian (Shelley) Choate of Wellsville, New York, and was grandpa to Nycole (Justin) Burbanko, and Andrea Conlon of Fairfax, Vermont, his longtime friend Roger Brown, second cousin Benji Greenlaw who saw to many needs during his illness, many great nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his longtime companion, Leona Herrick (also on her birthday in 2015) and brother-in-law David Choate.
A memorial service will be announced 2022. Donations in Dick’s memory may be made to Kindness Program, PO Box 526, Searsport, Maine 04974 or to another Searsport area charitable organization.
