Obituary of Charles E. Aldus
Charles E. Aldus
Charles E. Aldus, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away March 27, 2021, after a brief hospital stay and prolonged illness. He was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Unity, the fourth oldest child in a family of 11.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Ruth Cunningham Aldus, two daughters, Tammy (Bob) O’Shaughnessy and Lisa (Rich) Bachelder, four grandchildren, Katie (Ryan) Roberts, Marty Charles O’Shaughnessy, Arlee O’Shaughnessy and Zoe O’Shaughnessy, and great-grandson, Levi Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ida (Gilmore) Aldus, father Walter L. Aldus Sr. and stepmother Verla Hills, sisters and brothers Peggy (Aldus) Riley, Walter L. Aldus Jr., Raymond Aldus, Dianne (Aldus) Blake and John Aldus. Surviving siblings are Marie (Aldus) Furbush, Albert Aldus, Barbara (Aldus) Carter, Kathy (Aldus) Weaver and David Aldus. He had several stepbrothers and stepsisters.
He attended Belfast area schools and spent his life working hard to create a wonderful life for his wife and children in Waldo. He worked for many years as an electrician for Cianbro Corp. and later started his own electric motor business, Charlie’s Electric Motor Service, which even to this day customers remember for his excellent work. He is remembered for his incredible work ethic, his love for old cars (his favorite being a Ford Model A of which he rebuilt two), his old clock collection, his ability to always create something beautiful out of nothing and enjoyed building furniture for his grandchildren as pieces they will always cherish. He and his wife wintered in Florida for 22 years, something he really enjoyed until they began missing home too much and returned home permanently.
He had a great love for his cat, Mickey, 17, his many friends made over a lifetime of coffee and shooting the breeze, and always being outside and tinkering. He never said no to anyone needing his help and would give the shirt off his back, even to strangers, without hesitation.
His legacy will be one of great love for his family and friends. He and the memories will never be forgotten.
There will be no service at his request. Memories and condolences may be shared on this tribute.
