I am grateful to have a storehouse of memories that include Denise--from Belfast Cafe days, to The Independent, to our being Congress Street neighbors. Fried dough on Sunday afternoon, New Years Eve parties, sitting in the backyard with iced tea on a hot summer day...Denise's quiet presence was comforting and also a challenge. I loved to find curious things to tell her, just to get a surprised look or sardonic comment. Our paths diverged years ago, but the painting she did of Skye and Lydia has been a constant reminder of her talent and her being--hanging on my wall for the past 30 years. It is sad to know you are gone in body; comforting that your spirit continues...
