Obituary of Robert O. Demers
Robert O. Demers, 85, of Montville passed away on January 8th, 2021, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Manchester, NH on August 25, 1935.
Robert was a hardworking man throughout his whole life— even filling two job positions throughout his long battle with cancer. You may remember him working for the Town of Montville or driving for Waldo County Transportation. Or even from his earlier years while working as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Union Local #4.
When Robert was not working, you would likely see him with his daughter and wife on arm— for his world and happiness revolved around them. He spent a lot of time sipping on a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee with an old fashion doughnut in hand.
Overall, Bob was an exceptional man. He always reminded everyone that family was the most important thing in life. And that no family was defined by blood or genetics. He humbled us when even in his final hours he asked for us to take care of one another and love always. We can all take away something from those words. Bob will always be remembered for his kind heart and selflessness, his contagious laugh that followed all his quirky jokes and of course the love and devotion he had to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Napoleon “Paul” Demers and Fleurida (Hemond) Demers; son Richard “Ricky” Demers; brother Raymond Demers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda (Blaine) Demers their children; Jennifer Demers, Richard Nichols and partner Michelle Saitto and her children Kellie and Nick, Holly (Nichols) McCormick her husband Earl; brother Roland Demers and wife Brenda; sister-in-law Nancy Demers; brother in law Dennis Blaine; daughter-in-law Linda Demers; granddaughter Hannah (Nichols) Caswell and husband Christopher and their children Paisley, Raelynn and Tucker Caswell; grandson Ben Nichols and partner Christopher Murch.
The family would like to thank Belfast Oncology with the help of Dana Farber in Boston for providing exceptional care. Encouraging Bob’s desire to never give up and treating him as he was indeed to us—irreplaceable. We would also like to thank every other caregiver that graced our lives during his treatments, from the emergency room staff to the in-home health nurses.
A celebration of life will be held during this summer where family, friends and coworkers are welcome to attend.
Condolences can be sent to his wife Linda at their home or shared at ripostafh.com.
