Obituary of Margaret Pauline Brown

Margaret P. (Kezal) Brown died in Auburn, Maine Tuesday, December 1, 2020, due to complications of COVID 19. She was born in Rumford, Maine on Sep. 27, 1928, to Annie and Michael G. Kezal, Sr.; attended schools in Rumford, and graduated from Stephens High School with the class 1947. Upon graduation, she began work at the Oxford Paper Company; and when her father passed away the following year, she accepted the responsibility of supporting her mother and five younger siblings. Margaret married Elwood “Woody” Brown in May 1964; and when he died in an automobile accident April of 1965, she left her job at the paper mill to attend Business School. Upon graduation she procured a government position working with home loans until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, was proficient with both vegetables and flowers, and was an avid reader. She was active and liked to play golf, was an avid bowler, and she enjoyed competing with her Curling team throughout the states and Canada. She was a member of Post 43 Legion Auxiliary in Belfast where served on many committees and as President of the organization; and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary #6829 in Swanville where she volunteered for many committees, and fund raisers. After retirement she enjoyed the yearly YMCA trips with her friends and visited many European countries. Her busy schedule never interfered with her number one love, spending time with her family. She is survived by her sister Teresa Allen and her husband Larry of Westbrook, brothers John Kezal of Rumford, and Michael Kezal and his wife Anne of Turner. Margaret was not blessed with children, but she was always described affectionately as a second mother by her nieces and nephews: Dorina, Donna, Lori, Steve, Pamela, Denise, Michael, Linda, Jean, Carol, Joe, Jeff, Anna, Kevin, Mark, and Joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Elizabeth, sister Mary Kezal Laperle and husband Roma, sister Anna Kezal Bouchard and husband Emile, brother Joe, half-brother John Wilson and his wife Josephine, a special sister-in-law Ann Kezal, two nephews Alan and Jeffery, and a niece Jackie. Abiding by Margaret’s wishes there will be no memorial service, and her remains will be interred, at a late date, in the family plot in Rumford.
