In 1948 he married Connie Jenness and celebrated their 72nd anniversary earlier this year. Along with their daughter Linda and son Larry they raised two nephews, Fred and Richard Jones.

He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Belfast Historical Society & Museum, Northport VFW, and Masons.
In 1970 Harold started jogging with Ralph Snyder and Darrell O’Leary. What began as jogging progressed to running. Over the years they competed in 10k races, half and full marathons . At 52 he completed his first marathon, his last 10k was walked with Connie in Lubec in 2013.
Cathy Horne and Lourene Rich were special partners in Harold’s daily running/walking routine.
In 1985 he moved to the ‘country’ where he enjoyed all domestic and wild animals (except grey squirrels and beavers), his flower beds, vegetable garden and panoramic view of the bay. Harold shared his raspberry patch and garden with many friends. Last October he and Connie moved to the Residence at Tall Pines where he continued his love of gardening with his good friend Mario, helping Denise plant and tend the flower beds.
