Obituary of Carlene Fay Hinds

Carlene F. Hinds (Bennett) Belfast - Carlene F. Hinds (Bennett), 81, formally of Stockton Springs, passed away on July 15, 2020, at Tall Pines in Belfast after a long illness. She was born July 12, 1939, to the late Valmore and Lorena (Pinkham) Bennett of Stockton Springs. She is survived by her brother Guy Bennett and wife Louise of Windsor, Virginia; her children, Karee Taylor (Sanborn) and husband Scott of Frankfort, John Sanborn Jr. and wife Sandi of Benton, Aimee Grindel (Sanborn) and husband Andy of Prospect; grandchildren, Derrol Murphy, Michael Murphy and wife Jackie, Michelle Gott (Murphy) and husband James, Shanna Murphy and fiancé Bryan Somers, Tyler Sanborn and wife Jessica, Ryan Sanborn, Kyle Sanborn and wife Leah, Andrew Grindel II and fiancé Maya Bryant, and Adam Grindel. Carlene also had 15 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was pre deceased by two husbands, and her sister Iva McElravy (Bennett). Carlene was married to the late John Sanborn for many years, then married to the late Justin (Rocky) Hinds of Cape Jellison. Carlene and Rocky summered for many years in Florida. Carlene found a love for Rocky's pet Toy Poodles; they adopted one together named Beau that was her companion for many years after his passing. Carlene graduated from SSHS in 1957. She was a stay at home mother, co-owner of Sanborn’s Upholstery, as well as a talented seamstress, always making clothes and toys, blankets and other items for family members. She worked at Belfast Pants Factory for a few years, but later in life worked for the United States Postal Service. She worked mostly in Stockton Springs but also filled in at surrounding towns. After retiring, Carlene continued enjoying her flower gardens, bird watching, and joined the historical society in Stockton Springs. She was also a member of the Stockton Springs Church for many years, and enjoyed helping with vacation bible school, Senior lunches, and coffee hour. Carlene was always up for going out to eat. There will be a Graveside service at Mt. Recluse Cemetery on Cape Jellison, August 1 at 11:00am for family and close friends. Immediately after there will be light refreshments and a gathering at The Playground at Cape Docks for remembering Carlene. She always loved the Cape and the salt water.
