Obituary of Leone A. Harriman
Leone Alice Harriman "Kitty", 71, Northport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, April 19, 2020, after complications due to COVID-19, at Tall Pines Commons, Belfast, Maine.
Born in Belfast, October 26, 1948, she was the daughter of Leon W. Barton and Beatrice Seekins Barton Black.
October 24, 1970 she married her childhood sweetheart Frederick B. Harriman.
Kitty, as many people knew her, was a devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Niece, Aunt, Cousin and Friend. She began her schooling at the Edna Drinkwater school in Northport and was a graduate of Belfast’s Crosby High School class of 1966. She held a variety of jobs in her life: factory worker at Truitt Brothers, restaurant hostess & waitress, accountant, and Nanny of Charles and Matthew Calderwood, but a true, unrealized, passion of hers was to be a nurse.
Kitty enjoyed the camaraderie of playing Bingo at the Redman Hall, canning the bounty from Fred’s annual garden, exploring her ancestry, journaling, cooking “enough to feed the town of Northport” that she shared with family and friends, and keeping in touch with people near and far via the computer, written letters and “I love you gifts” randomly sent. She also took great pride in being a member of the Northport Community Church. Kitty had a fondness for flowers whether gardened or wild, and always had a posy gathered in her mother’s memory on her kitchen windowsill.
Besides her loving husband, Fred, of 49 years, Kitty is survived by her daughters, Shelly Patten and Partner Budd Ferrara, Melissa and Husband Jack Staples: Grandsons Dominic Williams, Cody Williams, Avery Kreamer, and Nicholas Staples; Mother in law Georgia Chapin; Brothers Fred Barton and Matilda Holt, Fern Barton and Hulda Hodgdon; Sisters Vickie Knowlton and Cheryl McCawley and their mother Judy Barton; Brothers in law Tom Harriman and Jill, Kevin Chapin and Dawn; Uncle Edward Beckett; Nieces Jessica Ward, Tina Cook, and Crystal Barton. Joel Prescott, of whom she thought of as her son; Great nephews Landon and Gatlin; Great nieces Mackenzie and Addie; Many cousins who she loved dearly, special friends Karl and Janice Kleinbub, Dave Salisbury, Sharon Merry and Lisa Southard. and so many other friends near and far who should know they held a special place in Kitty's heart.
She was predeceased by her father Leon W. Barton , mother Beatrice Seekins Barton Black, step-father Glendon Black, grandmother Dorothy Beckett, and brother Leon C. Barton.
A graveside will be on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 11:15 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery Horse Jockey Lane, Northport, Maine. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of one's choice.
