Obituary of Shirley Louise Gibbs
Shirley L. Gibbs, 83, of Belfast, formerly of Brooks, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2020 at a Belfast hospital.
Shirley was born July 23, 1936 to Edmund W. Moody and Edith G. (Hustus) Moody in Monroe. She attended Monroe schools, graduating from Monroe High School. On December 5, 1953, Shirley married Eddie G. Gibbs of Brooks and moved to Brooks, to begin their family. She was a homemaker until the last of her 4 children went to school and then she went to Belfast to begin work in manufacturing. Shirley first worked at Waldo Shoe Corp., later at Stinsons Canning Factory and lastly at Harborside Graphics. Shirley loved music and upon retiring, she and her sister would go to area nursing homes, boarding homes and granges to entertain folks with singing. Shirley also loved to crochet and do embroidery, giving away many items that she made.
For many years, Shirley attended the Brooks Pentecostal Church in Brooks and Faith Temple Church of God in Belfast. Shirley loved serving God with her church families. While at Tall Pines, when unable to attend church, Shirley enjoyed watching Souls Harbor on Sunday mornings.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her husband Eddie, and her precious Chihuahua, Teddy Boy. Shirley is survived by her four children: Linda Gagner of GA, Ernest Gibbs of Brooks, Carol Braley and husband Harold, of Albion, and Sheryl Perkins of Belfast; four grandchildren: Brock Gagner of GA, Bronson Gagner of FL, Patrick Albert of Swanville and Derrick Roberts of Belfast; three great grandchildren: Dawson and Denali Roberts of Belfast, and Briella Gagner of FL; a brother: Maurice Moody and wife Linda, of Brooks and a sister: Lorraine Gibbs of Belfast; two sisters-in-law: Mildred Gibbs of Belfast, and Marion Veino of Newburg; a special aunt: Doris Scammon of CT.; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends too many to mention.
Shirley was a caring person and always had a big smile for everyone she met.
Her son said, “She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.”
Shirley will be buried in the Kinney Cemetery in Brooks at a later date. Arrangements are by Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice. After this pandemic is over, a celebration of Shirley’s life will be held where everyone can gather and remember this wonderful lady.
