Obituary of Burton L. Perkins

BURTON L PERKINS, 83, passed away May 6, 2010 at his home in Belfast. He was born February 6, 1927 in Belfast, the son of Lawrence and Gladys (George) Perkins. Burt worked at Maplewood and Penobscot Poultry Companies as a young man. He then became a lobsterman and did so until he finally retired at 78. He also had a passion for western novels often reading while down at the waterfront. He met many life-long friends at the waterfront. He loved to hunt, beautify his land, play cribbage, mow the family lawns, ride his ATV and snowmobile and attend public suppers. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey and wife Suna of Westminster, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, A.J. and Kira. Burt is also survived by his brother Newell of Augusta and sisters, Rita of Peoria, Arizona, Florence of Bangor, Cora of Green Cove Springs, Florida and Priscilla of Leesport, Pennsylvania. Burt is also survived by his best friend, neighbor and cousin, Wayne and special sister in law, Priscilla Place as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Burt is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, Phyllis (Gelo) Perkins and brothers Lindsey, Raymond, George, Earl, Gerald and Alan and special friend Alma “Arnie” Merrithew. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 14th at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast with a celebration of life on May 15th, 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, High Street, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waldo County General Hospital, Annual Campaign, 116 Northport Avenue, Belfast, ME 04915.
