Obituary of John J Moore
Acton, ME- John J. Moore, 76, died February 18th at Maine Medica Center after a brief illness. He was born in Milton, Mass, to William and Helen (Sullivan) Moore.
Upon Graduation from Milton High School, he followed his father and older brother into the plumbing trade where he worked until entering the US Army in 1954. He served at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland before taking several overseas deployments.
After his discharge from the Army, he returned to the Boston area where he enrolled at the Lowell Institute to further his education. He was also avtive in his loval community, operating several small businesses and remaining active in numerous trade associations and community organizations.
He had a passion for auto racing, and in the 1960's was an active member of teh Sports Car Club of America. He was known for his Porsche race care and his modified VW bus with which he brought the race car to and from races.
In 1998, he retired to Acton, Maine where he enjoyed raising goats, chickens, tending to his garden, and several attempts at beekeeping. In Acton, he became involved in town government, including serving on the Acton budget committee. He was also very involved in conservative politics.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by a brother, William Moore Jr., of Canton, MA, a sister, Natalie (Moore) O'Donnell of Fern Park, FL, three sons, Frank Moore, of Derry, NH, Greg Moore of Manchester, NH, and Andrew Killilea-Moore of Fairfax, VA; and two grandchildren, Aidan and Shannon Moore. Memorial services will be held in the spring.
