Obituary of Yvette Bouchard
Yvette Bouchard, 69, died peacefully in her sleep at home in Round Pond, Maine Friday May 30, 2014 after a two year bout with cancer. She is survived by her husband and partner of 30 years Eric Michelsen, a sister Anne Brown of Beverly ,Mass. and two nieces, Lindsey Brown and Allison Collins and an extended family throughout New England.
Yvette was born and raised in Marblehead, Massachusetts to Leon and Adrienne Bouchard. She graduated Marblehead High School and was an accomplished sailor in the harbor 110 class races. She graduated from Smith College in Amherst, Mass. with a BA in Studio Arts and Fine Art and studied printmaking with Leonard Baskin. She also attended the Yale University summer School of Music and Art and studied at New York University Graduate School of Education in the Creative Arts. Yvette was an avid tennis player locally and a tennis coach in training at U-Mass Amherst.
Always following their artistic dreams, Yvette and Eric moved from the village of Cotuit on Cape Cod west to Flagstaff, Arizona and later to Sedona, Arizona. They ended their four year exploration of the western high country in Santa Fe and Pecos, New Mexico. Major side trips to Denver, Colorado, Kanab, Utah and Cheyenne and Jackson, Wyoming filled out their inventory of western explorations.
Returning to Cape Cod, Yvette and Eric opened a refined version of their previous Fine Art Framing and Fine Art Gallery again in Cotuit, Mass. There they showcased their own art and photography and represented a dozen other artists.
After ten years the rocky coast of Maine beckoned. Yvette’s French-Canadian background has roots in Maine and Canada and they moved to the Mid-Coast region in 2006 where they opened another version of the fine art framing and art gallery business.
Exploring nature in all it’s moods with Eric were favorite and productive ventures for Yvette. They captured and created images on most of their explorations and produced a large inventory of work from the trips.
To quote a friend and fellow artist: “Yvette was good at prioritizing happiness – she always found things to enjoy – Yvette was just plain good company in any weather”
