Obituary of Margarette Llada Flanagan
MARGARETTE LLADA FLANAGAN completed her earthly journey and returned home on June 13, 2014. She was born in Aspermont, Texas on September 21, 1934 to Altie Lee (Foster) and Newton Lee Moore. She was a 1953 graduate of Stamford High School. On April 19, 1958 she married Dan Flanagan whom she met while he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. They made their home in Dallas where their children were born. In September of 1966 she moved with her husband and children to Rockland, Maine where she raised her family and remained for the rest of her time on earth.
She was a long-time secretary for SAD 5, first at the junior high and later at the high school. Her greatest joy was raising her children, taking part in her grandchildren’s lives and holding her great-grandchildren
She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland and was past president of the Daughters of St. Bernard’s.
Llada was very much a southern lady and always proud to be a Texan, never losing her Texas accent even after 48 years. Sharing her stories of being raised in the south made her beautiful blue eyes shine. Known as “Lady Bug” to her southern friends and family, she loved anything and everything “lady bug”. She was known for her incredible southern fried chicken, Texas chili and “green jello” salad.
She loved perusing lawn sales and the Dollar Store and could always find a use for everything from an empty thread spool to a shoe box. She loved to sew and made most of her daughters’ clothing when they were young. She recently made each of her children a quilt made of patches of their childhood clothes.
She follows her parents and her sister, Marie, to Heaven where they welcomed her with open arms.
She leaves on earth her husband, Dan, of 56 years; her children Teresa and Bruce Harrington of Fayette, Danny and Wendy Flanagan of Jacksonville, Florida, Colleen Flanagan of Camden, Keenan and Marcia Flanagan of Rockland and Patrick and Suzan Flanagan of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Known affectionately as Mimi to her grandchildren Dustin and Lindsay Harrington of Alton, Brittany Harrington and Jimmy Palmer of Readfield, Amanda and Matthew Flanagan of Jacksonville, Florida, Tristan and Grace Anderson of Camden, Reilly and Kendra Flanagan of Rockland, Philip and Jennie Flanagan of Portsmouth, Virginia and Marissa Flanagan of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her great-grandchildren Raelyn and Jayden Flanagan of Portsmouth, Virginia and Stella Rose Harrington of Alton as well as her Texas cousins and also many, many in-laws.
A Catholic mass of the celebration of Llada’s life will be held 12 pm Monday, June 30, 2014, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland followed by a gathering in the Parish Hall. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Bernard’s Soup Kitchen. A special thank you to all family and friends who helped her through this transition.
