Obituary of Hilda Weymouth Sheldon

Morrill- Hilda W. Sheldon, 98, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on February 26th, at Harbor Hill in Belfast with family at her side. She was born in Belfast, February 19th, 1917 to George and Mira (Jackson) Weymouth. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1934, Gorham Normal School in 1937 and University of Maine Orono with a Bachelors in Education in 1939. She was a teacher for 25 years and was the librarian at Belfast Area High School for 13 years. She was a part of the Delta Kappa Gamma- Teacher's Honor Society for 35 years and Education Honor Society Kappa Delta Pi at UMO for 70 years. She was the Morrill Town Treasurer for 11 years, Town Correspondent for the “Republican Journal” for 20 years and Treasurer for Morrill Historical Society for 20 years. Hilda and her husband Elwyn were one of the founding couples and were involved with Fair Haven Christian Camps in Brooks for over 60 years. Hilda was a member of Morrill Baptist Church for over 80 years where she served as youth group leader, deaconess, clerk, librarian, Sunday School Superintendent and ladies Sunday School teacher over those years. She and her husband were also leaders of a 4-H club in the '40's. Hilda is survived by her children, daughter Jean Whitcomb and husband Edward of Morrill, son Gary Sheldon and wife Faye of Morrill and son David Sheldon and wife Dalene of Brooks. She was Nana to eleven grandchildren, Denise Loper and her husband Glenn, Greg Whitcomb and his wife Michelle, Wendi Luther, Marcia O'Jala and her husband Chris, Mark Sheldon and his wife Ginger, Michelle Perkins and her husband Greg, Allison Littlefield and her husband Cliff, and Kristin Stutheit and her husband Jason, Sarah Helm and her husband Emil, David Annis, and Kaylene Miller and her husband JC. 19 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Elwyn Sheldon, parents George and Mira Weymouth, brother Keith, sister-in-law Gladys Weymouth, brother-in-law Roy and his wife Rebecca Sheldon. Hilda loved her family and keeping up with all that was going on in their lives. In later years she enjoyed time with her family at the Rocky Roost family cottage in Brooks. She liked to travel, one of the most memorable was a trip by train across Canada with her husband Elwyn. She loved her little apartment attached to Gary and Faye's house. We would like to thank the family and friends who helped care for Hilda to keep her home these past few years. Visiting hours will be Thursday March 5th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Riposta's Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast, ME 04915. A funeral service will be Friday March 6th at 2:00pm at Morrill Baptist Church, Morrill, ME 04952 with a reception to immediately follow. A committal service will be in the spring.
