Obituary of Judith Pendleton Coffin
ISLESBORO
JUDITH PENDLETON COFFIN, 80, ended her journey on April 20, 2015 from complications of pulmonary disease. She was born in Belfast on December 1, 1935, the daughter of Donald E. and Evamay (Kelley) Pendleton. She graduated from Islesboro High School in 1953 and with a degree in English from the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1957.
Throughout her career, she worked for United Aircraft Corporation in West Hartford, CT, IBM in Owego, New York, at the family store on Islesboro, several property management firms in Portland, Penobscot Medical Center in Rockport and at Islesboro Central School. Retiring in 2000, she became active in the Alice L. Pendleton Library, the Islesboro Ambulance Association, the 2nd Baptist Sewing Circle and the Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Primrose Chapter 2.
She cherished her friends and loved all the people on Islesboro; those who taught her lessons and showed her the way and those who brought her growth and happiness. The Island was truly her home. She loved the woods, the sight and smells of the ocean, and the Camden Hills as seen from her home on the point. She especially cherished her walks with her dog, Liddy. She was in comfort and she was in peace.
She was predeceased by her parents, Donald E. and Evamay K. Pendleton of Islesboro. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Aldridge Coffin, her brother Donald K. Pendleton and his wife Diane and their families, her nephews Donald Roderick Pendleton and family of Yarmouth, ME and Edwin Pyam Pendleton and family of New York City, several cousins and a very special friend and helpmate, Sharon McCorison.
A memorial service will be held on May 2nd at 11 a.m. at the 2nd Baptist Church in Islesboro. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alice L. Pendleton Library or The Boardman Cottage. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
