Obituary of John R. Penney

SEARSPORT - John "Jack" R. Penney, 66, passed away on August 19, 2015. Jack was born on July 16, 1949 in Berea, Ohio, the only child of Creasy and Marjorie (Wilson) Penney. He attended schools in Parma, Ohio and after graduating in 1967 he went on to Ohio University. Jack moved to Maine in 1973, first joining Bath Iron Works and then spending several years in the restaurant business. He attended Southern Maine Tech and graduated in 1995 with an Associate Marine Engineering degree, which steered him to a position as an engineer for ten years. He continued moving forward with his higher education at University of Maine, earning a BA in Applied Sciences. Jack built two homes, one in Liberty and another in Searsport, of which he was very proud. Sports were a big interest for him and he always supported his New England teams - the Red Sox and Patriots. He also enjoyed history, politics, reading and most of all boats and sailing. Jack leaves behind his partner of seven years, Vicki White. He also leaves behind two young ladies, Stephanie and Erica, for whom there was a special place in his heart. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast. There will be no services; however, memories and condolences may be shared at www.ripostafh.com. Jack was an avid listener of NPR and anyone wanting to remember him could make a donation to that organization.
