Obituary of Linwood L. Young

SMITHFIELD Linwood L. Young 86, passed peacefully at Togus Springs Hospice April 29, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born March 4, 1930, son of Albert (Alli) Young and Eva Bell Young. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1950. Lin married Kay Moore in 1955 and they have one daughter Debra Young Eaton. Lin joined the Air Force in 1951 training at Sampson AFB in New York with overseas assignments to RAF Sealand, RAF Sculthorpe, and RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge in England, Tours in Vietnam and Thailand, Stateside at Dow AFB, Maine, McDill AFB, FL and retiring after 26 years of service at Loring AFB in Maine. Lin loved people and was a member of many organizations Masons, Elks, VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge as well as Vintage Car Clubs. He was a gifted bowler representing his country on base teams in many international tournaments. He was elected to the Maine Bowlers Hall of Fame. He loved golf and was an avid pool player returning to the game when he could no longer bowl. Lin is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Debra, son in law S/Msgt Tyrone Eaton, grandchildren Elwen Eaton, William Eaton and Eowyn Gregory, great grandchildren Alice and Triston Gregory; sister Lorna Fanjoy; brothers-in-law Keith Fanjoy and Douglas Moore and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 7, 2016 at Smithfield Baptist Church with a reception following at the Smithfield Grange Hall.
