Obituary of Christine E Bishop

Christine Ellenor Sylvester Bishop age 77, of Pittsfield Maine, peacefully went to rest at her home, April 29th 2016; with family at her side. Unable to be treated due to complications, she bravely fought cancer for three years. She was born in South Unity Dec 17th, 1938, where she grew up with her six siblings. She was predeceased by her father, Percy Earl Sylvester when she was only eleven years old, her mother, (Marion) Louise Moreau Sylvester, and all three of her brothers Robert Earl Sylvester of South Unity, Edward Eugene Sylvester of South Unity and an infant brother, Frank Sylvester of South Unity. Christine was survived by her former husband Ralph Carl Bishop of Troy, they had two children; a son, Carl David Bishop of Troy (and Deland FL) and a daughter, Ruth Ellen Bishop Hodgson of Pittsfield. She has four surviving sisters, Thelma May Sylvester Bishop of Unity, Marie Ellen Sylvester Bishop of Troy, Helen Leona Sylvester Dawson of Troy, and Barbara Ann Sylvester Cote of Winthrop. She is also survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren of ME, NY and UT. She cherished them and her fourteen nieces and great-nieces; thirteen nephews, great-nephews and great-great-nephews, along with four mates. She had much love for her family and extended family. Christine celebrated many joyful occasions with all of them through the passing years. Pictures of family were proudly displayed on the walls and shelves of her home She had gained several friends throughout her life. Two of Christine’s close friends were Theresa Hubbard & Merna Cowan, whom Christine enjoyed going to Beano with. They had many good times in the years they knew each other. She also treasured her collection of butterflies and owls; and we cannot leave out Garfield. The assortment grew with each gift from family and friends. For work, Christine was an employee at Jim’s Ready Peel in Unity, ME for a time and was a homemaker, working hard keeping things in order. She is deeply and dearly missed. It will never be the same without her. Memories of her will continue to be woven into the family line. Her tenacity and strength will not be forgotten. The family would like to thank all the Hospice workers of Maine General of Waterville. Of these, were Cathy and Nancy. In addition, there was Gene, who worked as a Senior Companion as part of a program offered by the University of Maine. He spent quality time sitting and chatting with Christine throughout her illness. In respect of Christine’s request there will be no services, wakes nor funeral. The family and extended family want to thank everyone who knows or had worked alongside Christine, for being part of her life. It truly enriched the years and helped keep her going strong through the ups and downs. May we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. Always a dear daughter, sister, mom, grandmother, aunt, cousin, niece and friend to many. With heavy hearts, as echoes of yesterday sound forth; though tough the wait will be, we will see her again. Then healthy and happy she will be. Yes revived and renewed through the free gift God has provided.
