Obituary of Catherine Hersey

HARPSWELL — Catherine Hersey of Harpswell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 15, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Hersey Sr and two sons: Robert Hersey Jr, his wife Dawn and beloved granddaughter Rhiannon and Vincent Hersey, his wife Danielle and beloved granddaughter Tori. She is also survived by her sister, Ellen Woodworth of Lubec, Maine as well as many of Robert’s relatives. Catherine was an avid cook, gardener, and bee keeper. She enjoyed teaching her granddaughters the old ways to do things. She loved her chickens, her cat GJ and granddog Hunter. Catherine also had a great love of birds. Catherine spent 35 years driving school buses and making a difference in children’s lives. She loved the ocean, lobstering with Robert, swimming in the cove behind her house and visiting Quoddy Head. It was not uncommon to hear her lovely voice singing in the kitchen while she was making her famous bread, homemade baked beans, or pickling from her garden bounty. Service honoring her memory will be at St. Katharine Drexel Summer Chapel, 419 Mountain Road, Harpswell on June 23rd at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service at Cundy’s Harbor Community Hall, 837 Cundy’s Harbor Rd, Harpswell. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to the Maine Audubon Society.
