Obituary of Jeanette Lorraine Emeryton

Jeanette Lorraine Emeryton, formerly known as Janet Lorraine Roberts, went to live in Heaven with the angels on August 21, 2019 at the age of 76. Jeanette was born in Maine on April 20, 1943 to Dorothy (Penney) and Spurlin Emery. She was raised in and around Central Maine with five siblings. Jeanette always loved animals, especially her horses. She was an avid horsewoman and could frequently be seen riding one of her beloved horses in the Brooks Parade on July 4th. She used to spend all day on July 3 bathing, brushing, and tending to her horses so that they would look pristine for the parade. She definitely had some stunning horses, and they were always well-trained by her. At one point, she had nine horses in her barn, and she gave each one some love and attention every single day. She was especially proud of two of her palominos, Thunder and Lightning, and enjoyed riding them from the Roberts Farm in Knox (where she lived) into Brooks Village. One of her favorite shirts to wear was a pink sweatshirt her son and his wife had made for her with the names of all of her horses on it. She wore that shirt several times a week for many years. Jeanette also was a devoted pet mama to her dogs, and she provided a good home to many a dog while she was on the farm. She adored her Yorkies, Penny, Gidget, and Gypsy; her poodle, Tassie; and her English Springer Spaniel, Lacey. After leaving the farm, her little toy poodle, Misty, was her constant companion. She loved cats as well and often made room for stray cats coming by the barn. In fact, she named one special cat Survivy because she found the cat almost dying in the woods after being caught in a trap. Jeanette felt it was a miracle that the cat survived, hence the name. She spoke often of a beloved cat, Mittens, whom she never forgot. Not only did she have the more traditional pets in the home, but she and her son had various rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, parrots, and even a chipmunk! Jeanette was an extremely hard worker and would get up early to do barn chores, milk the cows, and feed the chickens. She milked by hand until she wasn’t physically capable of doing it any longer. Then she got her first milking machine. She processed the milk, made butter, and grew vegetables in her garden. She mowed the lawn, took care of the garden, and kept the house as spotless as she could. In addition to all of the work on the farm, she raised her son and worked in the poultry factory and picked eggs for a neighbor. Jeanette was baptized later in life in Brooks and found a deep faith. She enjoyed reading her Bible when she had more quiet times. She was also an avid knitter and crocheter and made some fabulous afghans and sweaters. She made matching sweaters with ducks on them for her three grandchildren when they were young, and those sweaters (and the grandchildren) got many compliments for Jeanette. When she was home raising her son in Knox, Jeanette had two very special friends, Jean Dube and Susan Humphrey. She went on many trips with both Susan and Jean, and, in Jean, she had a wonderful horseback riding companion. The two of them would ride the trails for hours at a time. She thought very highly of both women, and they always had a special place in her heart. Jeanette is predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings: Linda West, Faylene MacDonald, Patricia Quimby, David Emery, and Rusty Emery. She is also predeceased by some of her nieces and nephews. Jeanette is survived by her only child, a son, and his family: Richard and Marie Roberts of Waldo and their children, Collin Roberts, Sierra Roberts, and Darrell Roberts. On behalf of Jeanette the Roberts Family would like to offer sincere gratitude to Connie (Jeanette’s niece) and Gerry Roy, who were wonderful caretakers for Jeanette in her later years. They were very special to Jeanette, and she was blessed to have them in her life. Jeanette would want to make sure their contributions were recognized. A private service will be held at a later date.
