Obituary of Stanley W. Blood
Stanley W. Blood
Stanley W. Blood passed away surrounded by family, on July 22, 2019. He was born February 20, 1936 in Morrill, the son of Milo and Mary (Flagg) Blood.
Stanley grew up on the family dairy farm in Unity. He attended schools in Unity and Freedom as well as the University of Maine. He was a member of the Unity State Championship Baseball team and excelled in basketball and golf. He was a lifelong Mason belonging to Belfast Lodge #24. He began his working career as a lineman for Central Maine Power where he worked many years assisting people especially during major storm outages. After many years together he married the love of his life, Edna Paul Blood. They enjoyed lots of travelling together with family and friends, especially going on cruises. They were competitive card players many times holding weekly matches. Stan’s early retirement allowed him to start gardening full time. The size of his gardens grew over the years and he provided vegetables for his entire family and many friends with Edna working alongside him assisting with the canning and freezing.
Stanley was an avid sports fan following the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots, Yankees and never missed a “Flop Sox” game. He and his brother were regulars at Maine Hockey games for years. Stanley was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Frye Mountain was a special place for him and “Moonbeam Lodge” was where many tall tales about white tail bucks originated. He holds the State record for 4th largest land locked salmon, which he caught on Lake St. George. Stanley enjoyed a good story, was a sound listening ear that provided good advice and was always the first to lend a helping hand. Stanley got a kick out of the time spent with his grandchildren as they made him chuckle often.
He was a good man.
Stanley is survived by his brother Clayton and wife Barbara, children Angela Gradie, Cathy Reynolds, Teresa Murphy, Michael Murphy and two daughters from a previous marriage, Becky and Beth, son in laws Jon, Alfred and Roger, grandchildren Tom, Meghan, Dallas, Justin, Dan, Corey, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Channing, Amanda, Roni, Cassie and their spouses, 17 great grandchildren, sister in law Ruth Blood, many cousins, nieces nephews and good friends. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife Edna, siblings Leroy, Maurice and Carol, son Robert Murphy, Jr., daughter Valerie Martin, grandson Brian Maresh, brother and sister in laws Ray and Delma Paul and Margaret Blood.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Justin and Amber for opening up their home and welcoming Papa over the past several months and to the many medical professionals that helped care for him.
