Obituary of Virginia M. Cunningham

Virginia M. Cunningham, 88 formerly of Searsport, passed away peacefully at a Memory Care Unit in Rockland on May 21st. Known to many as Ginny, she was born in Bucksport September 27, 1930 to Ralph and Gladys Frye, the granddaughter of Ernest and Catherine Holmes. Ginny lived in Bucksport and graduated from high school with honors. There she met her beloved sailor, George Cunningham, and was married in 1949. She and George had three children while living in Bucksport area. In 1960 they moved to Searsport where she worked and raised their three children. The family enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Patten Pond. Ginny was a very caring person who worked at W.T. Grants, Lights Restaurant, Bayview Nursing Home and Bob’s Grocery. After the death of her husband, she worked as a homecare companion for many persons. She spent many hours with her best childhood friend, Irene Doucette. She was predeceased by her husband, George and daughter, Signe Cole. She is survived by her two sons, Gordon and Grayling Cunningham and wives who still reside in the area; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Amy, Mariah and Anthony; several great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Ginny will be remembered as a very loving and caring person. The family would like to thank the staff for their hard work and compassion at Bayview Nursing Home, Woodlands Memory Care and Knox Center of Rockland. Upon her request, no services will be held. Her ashes will be placed by her husband at Birch Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home Belfast.
