Obituary of Wayne A. Cookson

Wayne A. Cookson, Sr., 75, passed away after a long illness on May 15, 2019, in Belmont, Maine. He was the son of Norman and Virginia (Simpson) Cookson. He was born in Portland, Maine on July 19, 1943. Wayne served in the Army from 1961 to 1964. He was retired from the I.B.E.W. Local 42 after 30 years of service as a Power Lineman. Wayne was a past commander of the Belfast, Mane American Legion Post 43. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, from his meticulous yard and garden, to chasing everything from partridge to moose, and fished everything from trout to lobsters. He loved and respected wildlife and he enjoyed riding his Harley. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, two sisters; Phyllis Bennett and Sandra Moulton, and one brother; Bruce Cookson, as well as his very special dog, Tika. Wayne is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 39 years, Glenice (Richards), three sons; Wayne Jr. and his partner Kimberly Flagg, Mark Sr. and his wife Toni, Steven and his partner Michelle Perry, seven siblings; Ara and his wife Charlene Cookson, Jerry and his wife Audrey Cookson, Paulette Robinson, Norma Sheldon and her husband Chet, Gayle Landis, Brent and his wife Anna Cookson, Lenora James and her husband Dennis, six grandchildren; Mark Cookson, Jr., Justin Cookson, Cory Pomeroy, Cheyanne and Liza Cookson, Garrett Miller and three great-granddaughters. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, in-laws, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, Wayne wished that donations be made to Waldo County General Hospital Oncology Department who took such wonderful care of him. Oncology & Infusion Therapy, 116 Northport Ave. Suite 112, Belfast, Maine 04915. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Belfast American Legion Post 43 on July 1, 2019 at 4pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. A graveside service for immediate family members will be held at a later date.
