Obituary of John S Merrithew

Searsport John S. Merrithew, 72, of Searsport passed away at home on May 3, 2019, son of the late John T. and Margaret Merrithew. Born in Belfast, John settled in Searsport. John was a Vietnam War veteran who loved the history of Searsport as well as the Civil War and reenacted history battles at Fort Knox. He enjoyed antiques in general. John was a volunteer fire fighter, past Master Mason and previously a Shriner. For 17 years he served as a Searsport Board Selectman with his most recent role as Chairman of the Board. John was predeceased by his parents John T. and Margaret Merrithew. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Merrithew of Searsport; his son, John V. Merrithew of Searsport, and four cousins. There will be a visitation on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. with memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. in John’s honor at Riposta Funeral Home.
